South Korea’s BC Card Completes Stablecoin Pilot for Foreign Payments
BC Card, South Korea's dominant payment processor, has successfully concluded a two-month pilot enabling foreign visitors to spend stablecoins at domestic merchants. The project—conducted with blockchain firm Wavebridge, digital wallet provider Aaron Group, and remittance specialist Global Money Express—tested the integration of foreign-held stablecoins into Korea's payment infrastructure without currency exchange or physical cards.
Participants converted stablecoins into QR-based digital prepaid cards, leveraging BC Card's existing authorization systems. The trial focused on transaction stability and user convenience, marking a strategic step toward South Korea's planned 2026 regulatory framework for digital assets.
This initiative signals growing institutional confidence in stablecoins' role in cross-border commerce, particularly for tourism-heavy economies. BC Card's infrastructure play could position it as a bridge between traditional finance and blockchain-based payment solutions.
